Import certification procedure: documents and stages

Stages

    Conformity confirmation

    The car must meet technical requirements: Euro-5+ for passenger cars, dimensions, lights, ecology.

    Accredited lab

    Certification is done by testing centres (DerzhavtotransNDIproekt etc.); VIN, documents and construction checks.

  3. 3

    Registration certificate

    After checks — a conformity certificate; with it and the customs declaration — first registration at the MVS service centre.

  4. 4

    Exemptions

    Cars on foreign plates for temporary import, humanitarian/military — simplified procedure.

Certification costs ~3–7k UAH + technical inspection. US cars are checked for EU-compliant lights/indicators — headlight replacement may be needed. Keep all receipts — first registration is limited to 10 days after customs clearance.
