Post-processing
Workflow
Classic flow: cull (PhotoMechanic/LR) → color/exposure (LR/Capture One) → retouch (PS) → export per format. Presets are a starting point, not the finish.
RAW vs JPEG
RAW — maximum data: pull shadows/highlights, change white balance losslessly. JPEG — only for fast delivery (press releases). Commercial working format — always RAW.
Color correction
Order: white balance → exposure → contrast → curves → HSL. Camera profiles are references, not 'filters'. A calibrated monitor is mandatory for paid work.
Retouching
Technique: frequency separation for skin, dodge & burn for volume, masks for local fixes. Good retouching is invisible. Clients pay for invisible work.
Presets
Your own preset — a compressed style: WB, curve, HSL, grain. Selling presets — only with an audience; users benefit more from learning to build their own.
Export
Print: TIFF/PSD 300 dpi AdobeRGB, uncompressed. Web: JPEG sRGB, 2048px long edge, quality 80. Socials: sRGB, platform-specific sizes. Never give clients TIFF for web.
