Medical confidentiality

What may and may not be disclosed

Details

  • What's confidential

The fact of consultation, diagnosis, tests, prognosis — everything learned through duties.

  • To the patient — everything

Full health information; extracts and copies — on request, free or at cost.

  • Exceptions

Court, investigation, threat to third parties' lives, epidemic safety — only cases defined by law.

  • To parents & relatives

Under 14 — to parents; 14–18 — with the child's consent; an adult's relatives — only with consent.

Even 'is there such a patient with you' is already confidential. A work chat about a patient without a name is better but still risky; train staff: no data outside the system.
