Tires & attachments — compatibility

Tire types, sizes, pressure, hitch categories, PTO and hydraulics — a compatibility guide

By topic

Tire types

R-1 (lugs) — field work; R-1W — deeper lugs for heavy soils; R-3 (turf) — meadows and crops; R-4 (industrial) — loaders.

Size & marking

E.g. 520/85R42: 520 mm width, 85% profile, radial, 42" rim. Metric and inch (18.4-38) systems — convert via manufacturer tables.

Pressure by load

Tire pressure is set by load and speed — low field pressure reduces soil compaction (0.6–1.0 bar), higher on roads.

Attachment compatibility

Three-point category: Cat 1 (compact 20–45 hp), Cat 2 (45–100), Cat 3 (100–200), Cat 4 (200+). Adapter bushings for mixed fleets.

PTO & hydraulics

PTO 540/540E/1000 rpm — shaft must match the implement; spline profiles 6/21/20. Hydraulic remotes: 2 pairs minimum for seeders, l/min flow critical for fans.

Weight & ballast

Front ballast for rear implements, rear for loaders. Calcium-chloride wheel fill — cheap ballast but corrodes rims.

The most common used-implement mistake — wrong hitch category or incompatible PTO. Before buying check: three-point category, PTO speed and shaft profile, hydraulic remote needs.
