Waste sorting & recycling

Per-item disposal guide — batteries, appliances, bulky waste

By item

Burnable/non-burnable

Out in municipal bags on designated days. Umbrellas/small appliances are usually non-burnable or bulky. Rules differ by municipality — check your local sorting guide.

Recyclables (PET/cans/bottles/paper)

PET bottles: caps and labels off in most municipalities. Newspapers/cardboard tied crosswise. Milk cartons opened, rinsed, dried.

Batteries

Dry cells: municipal collection box or non-burnable (varies). Lithium-ion rechargeables NEVER in trash — electronics-store/convenience boxes (JBRC).

Small appliances/PCs

Small-appliance recycling boxes (electronics stores/municipal) or courier pickup. PCs via free manufacturer take-back. Wipe data yourself.

4 large appliances

TV/fridge/washer/AC are Home Appliance Recycling Law items — can't be trashed. Retailer take-back or buy a recycling ticket at the post office.

Fluorescent/bulbs

Fluorescents contain mercury — dedicated municipal or electronics-store boxes. LED bulbs usually non-burnable. Broken tubes bagged, burnable in some areas.

Clothing/textiles

Wearable clothes to reuse shops/collection boxes. Damaged fabric burnable (or resource in some areas). Futons bulky waste.

Bulky waste

Book via municipal bulky-waste desk (phone/web) → buy processing sticker (convenience store) → attach and put out on the designated day.

Sorting rules differ by municipality. Final check is your local authority's sorting guide. Wrong disposal won't be collected, and lithium batteries in trash cause facility fires.
