Infographic types
Timeline — events in time (company history, project plan). Comparison — 'vs' or before/after (products, tariffs). Process — steps 1→2→3 (recipe, instruction, funnel). Statistical — big numbers + mini-charts (report, research). Hierarchical — org structure, classification. Geographic — map with data. Anatomical — object breakdown.
Data structure
Infographics ≠ a pile of numbers. Single-thesis rule: 1 layout = 1 conclusion. Hierarchy: conclusion headline → key figure (largest element) → evidence/details → source in small print. Filter: if a number doesn't support the thesis — it's noise. 5–7 data points max per layout — more won't be remembered.
Visual techniques
Icons instead of text where obvious. Progress bars and 'isotype' (rows of identical icons = parts of a whole) read faster than charts. Pie chart — only ≤5 slices, else bar chart. Bubble size is area, not diameter (binary error: a circle at 2× diameter looks like 4×). Align to a grid — 'almost aligned' is noticeable.
Production process
1. Data → thesis (one sentence). 2. Paper composition sketch — 3 variants. 3. Pick the type by data. 4. Layout in Figma: 8px grid, 2–3 colors, 1–2 fonts. 5. Test: is it clear in 5 seconds without text? 6. Export: carousel blocks for social, 300 dpi + bleed for print.
