Farm certification

Organic, GlobalGAP, HACCP, veterinary — requirements, cost, timelines

By topic

Organic certification

2–3 year transition without prohibited substances → certification from an accredited body (Organic Standard, EcoCert). Documenting all operations is key.

GlobalGAP

Standard for exporting vegetables/fruit to the EU: GHP, pesticide control, traceability. Annual audit; for smallholders — group certification via cooperative.

HACCP for processing

Mandatory for food enterprises: hazard analysis and critical control points. Mini-workshops — a simplified program based on HACCP principles.

Veterinary certification

For milk/meat — vet-san expertise per batch; enterprise registers with the State Food Safety Service. For export — separate accreditation.

Cost & timelines

Organic: $500–2000/yr certification + audit. GlobalGAP: $1000–3000 + infrastructure. HACCP implementation — 3–12 months with a consultant.

What certification gives

Premium price +20–50% on organic, access to chains and export, consumer trust. Without internal quality control a certificate doesn't work.

Certification is an investment in a system, not paper: without documented processes you can't pass an audit. For smallholders — group certification via a cooperative splits the costs.
