The Luhn algorithm (ISO/IEC 7812) catches single typos and most adjacent-digit transpositions, but does NOT prove the card exists. Test numbers for payment systems (e.g. 4111 1111 1111 1111 — Stripe test Visa) pass Luhn. For IMEI the check digit is the 15th.
