Health Indicators Glossary
What your lab results mean — in plain language
HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin)
Average blood glucose over 2–3 months; normal <5.7%, diabetes ≥6.5%
eGFR
Glomerular filtration rate — kidney function marker
Blood pressure
Systolic/diastolic pressure; normal <120/80, hypertension ≥140/90
LDL / HDL
'Bad' and 'good' cholesterol; LDL is the main target for CVD risk
Ferritin
Iron stores; low ferritin means iron deficiency even with normal hemoglobin
TSH
Thyroid-stimulating hormone — thyroid screening test
Vitamin D (25-OH)
Vitamin D status marker; deficiency common in low-sunlight latitudes
ALT / AST
Liver enzymes; elevation indicates hepatocyte damage
Creatinine
Muscle metabolism byproduct; basis for eGFR calculation
CRP
Inflammation marker; hs-CRP used for cardiovascular risk
SpO2 (saturation)
Blood oxygen saturation; <94% is a reason to see a doctor
BMI
Body mass index = weight/height²; limited for muscular builds
Waist circumference
Marker of abdominal obesity and metabolic risk
Resting heart rate
Beats per minute at rest; fitness lowers the value
Reference ranges vary between laboratories — rely on the ranges on your lab report and your doctor's interpretation.
