Weaning schedule

food introduction order per WHO/ESPGHAN — from 6 months, with readiness check

Readiness & age

✓ Ready to start: age and readiness signs present

What to introduce

6 mo

Vegetable purées (zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower) — start with 1 tsp, or iron-fortified cereals (buckwheat, corn)

6.5 mo

Meat purée (turkey, rabbit) — main iron source; fruit purées

7 mo

Fermented dairy (kefir, plain yogurt), yolk, butter/olive oil in purée

Safety rules
  • One new food every 2–3 days, in the morning — watch for reactions
  • Before 1 year avoid: honey (botulism), salt/sugar, whole milk as a drink, whole grapes/nuts (choking)
  • Breast milk/formula stays the base until 12 mo — solids come “in addition”, not “instead”
Per ESPGHAN 2017/WHO: start at 6 mo, iron (meat) is the priority from ~6.5 mo. Allergens (egg, peanut, fish, gluten) are introduced before 12 mo in small amounts — delaying raises allergy risk. With a family allergy history, plan with a pediatrician.
