Glassware and measuring-vessel reference

Details

  • Measuring

Cylinder/pipette/burette — 0.1–1% accuracy; volumetric flask — for preparing exact solutions.

  • Reaction

Erlenmeyer flask, beaker, test tube — for mixing and heating; a beaker isn't for accuracy.

  • Heating

    Porcelain dish/crucible — for evaporation; round-bottom flask — on a sand/water bath.

  • Care

Rinse with distilled after use, dry bottom-up; don't eyeball measurements in the lab.

Accuracy chooses the vessel: 'approximate' solution — a beaker, molarity — a volumetric flask, titration — a burette. Borosilicate glass is the only one for heating.
