Foundation programs

Foundation year — a 6–12 month pre-bachelor course for those whose credentials or language fall short of direct entry. Common in the UK, Netherlands, Australia, Germany (Studienkolleg).

Ukrainian 11-year graduates — many universities require 12 years of schooling. Career changers (medicine without chemistry). Weaker language (IELTS 5.0–5.5 vs required 6.0–6.5).

University foundation — guaranteed progression to that university's bachelor. Group-run (INTO, Kaplan, Navitas) — entry into a university network. Studienkolleg — state German, nearly free.

UK £15–25k/yr, Netherlands €10–18k, Studienkolleg ~€500/semester + Feststellungsprüfung exam. Online foundation — cheaper, but verify university recognition.

Passing (50–60% marks) → guaranteed first-year place. Failing → a lost year and money. Progression terms are in the offer letter — read before paying.

First year at a Ukrainian university + transfer. A-levels/IB remotely. US community college → junior-year transfer. Foundation pays off when visa timelines press.
