Territorial Defense

How to join the TDF: requirements, documents, differences from the AFU

Sections

  • What is Territorial Defense

Territorial Defense Forces — a separate AFU branch: facility security, checkpoints, settlement defense, support for regular units.

  • How to join

Apply at the district/city TDF headquarters or battalion at your residence. Documents: passport, tax ID, military ID. Medical board is mandatory.

  • Requirements

Age 18–60, medical board fitness (categories unfit for frontline are admitted), no serious criminal record.

  • Difference from AFU

Service mostly in your region, contract or mobilization. Combat actions — by order; participation beyond the region possible since 2024.

  • Support

Same pay as the AFU + combat bonuses for combat participation. Combat participant status — upon participation.

TDF is a real path to service for those who cannot serve on the frontline. Check recruitment at your district headquarters.
