A stacked m³ ≠ solid m³: stacked logs contain 30–40% air. Wet wood yields 30–50% less heat and tars the chimney — dry it 1–2 years. Poplar is cheaper than oak but you need almost twice the volume. A gasification boiler (85–90% eff.) extracts notably more heat than a basic stove (55–65%).
