Trip documents
Insurance, forest and reserve permits, border zones — what to arrange before departure
By topic
Insurance
Travel insurance covering active recreation (trekking) — basic policies don't cover hiking. Check evacuation limits.
Passport & copies
Passport and insurance copies in two places (backpack + cloud). For abroad — passport valid 3–6 months past return date.
Forest/reserve permits
State forests, national parks, border zones — permits or registration. In Ukraine — forestry permit for fires and forest; national parks separately.
Border zone
Hiking in a border zone — notify border service ahead (7–10 days). Without a permit — fines and detention.
Medical documents
List of chronic conditions and meds of the group with the leader; regional emergency contacts. For groups — informed consent.
Fire permits
In dry season — campfire bans in forests; use gas burners. Liability for forest fires is criminal.
Rules vary by region and season — check national park and forestry sites a week before departure. During martial law in Ukraine there are extra restrictions — verify with the regional administration.
