Action checklist for an accident/loss — so you don't lose the payout

Steps

1.Safety: hazards, warning triangle, don't move the car before documenting (if accident)2.Photo/video everything: car positions, damage, plates, location, date3.Police call / European accident statement — mandatory for liability and CASCO4.Contacts and details of the other party + witnesses5.Notify the insurer within the policy deadline (usually 24–72 h)6.Do NOT repair or wash the car before the insurer's inspection7.Package: claim form, policy, ID, licence, registration, police report8.Record filing dates and the payout deadline per the policy (usually 15–30 days)9.On refusal: written reasoning → NBU complaint → court

Top reasons claims get denied: missed notification deadline, repairs before inspection, no police report, 'left the scene'. Document EVERYTHING immediately — proving later is harder. A denial can be appealed via the NBU (for liability) or court — a written denial is mandatory, demand it.
