Kitchen wiring

Dedicated lines for heavy appliances

Oven (3–3.5 kW), dishwasher (2–2.5 kW), water heater and cooktop (up to 7 kW) — each on a dedicated line with its own breaker. A cooktop often needs 4–6 mm² cable.

Cable cross-section

Socket groups — 3×2.5 mm² cable (16A breaker), lighting — 3×1.5 mm² (10A), cooktop — 3×4 or 3×6 mm² (25–32A). Undersized cable = heat and fire.

Kitchen RCD is mandatory

Kitchen is a wet zone: 30 mA RCD on all socket groups, 10 mA on the dishwasher/washer line near water. An RCBO is a compact alternative.

Outlets: count & height

At least 6–8 outlets above the countertop (105–110 cm from floor), separate ones behind the fridge, hood, oven. Not above sink or stove — minimum 60 cm away.

Load calculation

A typical kitchen draws 8–12 kW at peak. Check that the main breaker and meter allow it — otherwise you need a capacity upgrade request.
