Agro Waste Recycling

Manure → biogas, straw → pellets, processing waste → compost: yields and economics

Sections

  • Manure & livestock waste

    Biogas: 1 t fresh manure ≈ 20–40 m³ biogas (60% methane) ≈ 40–80 kWh. Lagoon+digesters pay off on farms from ~500 head.

  • Crop residues

Straw/stalks — pellets, bedding, mulch. Field burning — a fine and humus loss (1 t straw ≈ 15 kg humus per year of decomposition).

  • Biogas plant

    Feedstock: 70% manure + 30% silage/pulp; yield 0.8–1.2 kWh electricity per m³ biogas × factor. Mini-BGU 100–250 kW — from $150k.

  • Composting

Processing waste (pulp, pomace, husks) — compost in 3–6 months in windrows with turning. Sells as organic fertilizer 300–800 UAH/t.

  • Permits

On-farm waste disposal — waste declaration; selling waste-derived fertilizer — certification; biogas plant — emission permit when burning gas.

Simplest monetization — compost and mulch; biogas pays off only at scale of hundreds of cattle.
