301 redirect generator

"old URL → new" list into .htaccess, nginx, or _redirects rules

# Apache .htaccess — 301 redirects
RewriteEngine On
Redirect 301 /old-page /new-page
Redirect 301 /blog/post-1 /news/post-1
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^id=5$
RewriteRule ^catalog/item$ /products/item-5? [R=301,L]
301 = permanent: Google passes ~90–99% of the page's equity to the new address — the main tool for preserving SEO during a migration. Apache query-string redirects need RewriteCond; nginx `location =` only matches the exact path without parameters. Avoid chains (A→B→C) — point everything to the final URL.
