Dam/levee: earthworks volume
Trapezoid cross-section → cubic metres of soil and cost estimate
Parameters
Volume = trapezoid area × length. Base width = crest + 2×slope×height. Pond dam slopes are usually 1:2–1:3 (steeper risks slippage). Add 10–15% for soil compaction/settlement. Keep the crest 0.5–1 m above maximum water level. This is a preliminary estimate — a specialist must design hydraulic structures (spillway/siphon, seepage, reinforcement).
