Vocal practice
Warm-up
10–15 min mandatory: lip trills on descending thirds → 'moo' on one note → low-to-high sirens. Singing cold is a straight path to losing your voice.
Breathing
Diaphragmatic: belly out on inhale, not shoulders. Exercise: exhale on 'sss' 20→40 sec — breath-support control. Phrasing = breath for the whole phrase, not between words.
Pitch
Record rehearsals — your inner ear lies. Exercises: scales to piano/app, octave jumps, arpeggios. A tuner app shows deviation in cents.
Practice routine
20–30 min daily beats 3 hrs weekly. Structure: 5 min warm-up → 10 min exercises → 15 min material → 5 min record & review. The voice is muscle — regularity beats intensity.
Vocal health
Room-temp water before and during. Don't sing on a cold — nodule risk. Screaming/whispering — both traumatic; loud ≠ forced. Ear ringing after — the stop signal.
Material
Work a song phrase by phrase, not whole. Hard part — slow to 60% and build up. Transposing to your range — normal, not weakness. Instrumental track — to test without the original.
