Noise & ventilation
What printing emits
PLA — minimal (ultrafine particles). ABS/ASA — styrene and VOCs, ventilation required. Resin printing — toxic fumes, separate room + exhaust, never a bedroom.
Ventilation
Exhaust outside at 100+ m³/h for ABS, or an enclosure with HEPA+carbon filter. A recirculating filter is a compromise, not a full replacement.
Noise isolation
Printer on a mass base (slab + rubber feet) kills table resonance. An enclosure cuts 10–15 dB. A door between printer and bedroom is the simplest fix.
Where to place it
Not in a bedroom or kids' room — particles and smell are invisible but real. Best: a separate room/balcony with exhaust, or a filtered enclosure in a low-traffic zone.
Fire safety
Don't leave a printer unattended overnight (especially cheap ones without thermal runaway protection). Smoke detector above it, fireproof surface, scheduled shutdown.
