Bureaucracy abroad

What consulates do

Passport services, notarization, police clearance, consular registration, registering births/marriages abroad, help with lost documents.

Booking

Online queue on the MFA site — booking 2–6 weeks out in popular countries. Check slots every morning — cancelled ones reappear.

Documents

Valid passport, 3.5×4.5 photo, consular fee receipt (paid on-site or online), application form filled on-site.

Consular fees

Passport — roughly double the domestic fee abroad, notarization — per act, urgent processing — double fee. Rates are published on the embassy site.

Lost passport

Local police report → consulate → return-travel certificate (valid 30 days). Photos and document copies speed it up.

What consulates don't do

It won't legalize work, won't arrange visas/permits of the host country, won't pay fines, isn't a lawyer. Local bureaucracy is yours or a local lawyer's job.
