Digital nomad: visas, taxes, insurance

☐ Nomad visas

Portugal (D8), Spain, Estonia, Croatia, Greece, Georgia (Remotely from Georgia), Czechia (Zivno). Requirements: income from a foreign employer, insurance, housing, clean-record certificate.

☐ Tax residency

183 days in a country → its tax resident → worldwide income taxed locally (or under a treaty). Long visas usually mean local taxes — plan ahead.

☐ Legal structure

A Ukrainian sole-proprietor works for foreign clients, but isn't always accepted as 'foreign income' for visas — some countries want a company contract, not self-employment.

☐ Insurance

Travel insurance doesn't cover long-term living: you need local or international health insurance (SafetyWing, Cigna etc.). For the visa — a policy covering its whole term.

☐ Banking

Wise/Revolut for daily spend, a local card for long visas. Ukrainian cards work but large payments are better via international accounts.

☐ Housing

Airbnb is expensive long-term; local portals (Idealista, ImmoScout, Otodom) are 30–50% cheaper. Visas need a confirmed address — book housing before applying.

☐ Rights & limits

Working on a tourist visa is a violation everywhere: even 'laptop work for a client back home' is formally banned on tourist status. A nomad visa is the legal route.
