What to confirm in an EV policy — battery, cable, total loss, assist
Battery coverage
The traction battery is 30–40% of car value. Confirm in the policy: is battery damage covered (crash, flooding, underbody impact) and is there a repair/replacement limit.
Cable & home charger
A charge cable costs 10–30k UAH — is theft/damage covered? A home wallbox is a separate property insurance item.
MTPL — same rules
Mandatory liability insurance for EVs — same as ICE, tariffs by the same coefficients. No discounts.
Comprehensive cost
EVs are often rated higher: thinner repair base, expensive parts, service scarcity. Compare several insurers — the spread on the same car reaches 30–50%.
Total loss & salvage
On total loss the key question is salvage value of the battery: an 80%+ SOH pack can be worth half the car. Fix the valuation procedure in the contract.
EV roadside assist
Check: is tow-to-charger on depletion included — the EV analog of 'fuel delivery', but not all assist services have mobile charging.
EV insurance rules are younger than the market itself — policy wordings vary widely. Read the 'exclusions' section specifically for battery and charging equipment; an agent's verbal assurance isn't proof. This is an orientation guide, not legal advice.
